I invited Katty at least 3 times, and every time she seemed surprised that this site exists.

Katty has an account here and chooses to stay at the old site - despite it literally being the same boards and same few people for years on end, with the site breaking in some way every month or so. I thought she might miss some people, but I guess she’s content with those who remain.
Coop and booger also.
I can’t imagine they’ll suddenly be swayed, it’s not like they aren’t fully aware. Booger in particular seems to feel strongly about the old site, despite literally asking on Discord if someone would make a new one. Matt even told him “so leave then” when he complained about the site issues once, but he still stays there. It’s a strange decision but it’s his.
I like Bogglebooey, he was always pleasant. Shame he doesn’t stick around here. I like momo too. Would be nice to see them both here.

I would love to meet KattyKatty again. She was the first one who talked to me on the old site. Even before Sasa;-) When you meet her Cat, please say hello from me.

I miss booger/goober and cooper. They said this site was great but I haven't seen them here in months.

I have been trying. Saw boggleboey here a couple of times and thought he would stay. I'll try to recruit kattykatty. She's fun. I did try to talk to nashie but I don't think nashie pays attention to chat. I should invite my brother and his wife. But my brother used to beat me all the time in boggle. Not sure I want to give him bragging rights here.
Sasa wrote:
Maybe, just maybe I can get Syd.
Alienzen wrote:
You should try to get them over here Cat. The cool ones. Sapphire was nasty to Lime for months, accusing her of cheating amongst other stuff, and eventually made her uncomfortable to play there. And the Winsomes were also very nasty. Hewin was really odd, he said he was "playing psychological games" with Lime and he was "winning". This was after he spent almost every day for months playing with Lime in the morning and supposedly being her friend. She still has no idea what she apparently did wrong to warrant the treatment. I think he got jealous when Grimm joined and kicked his arse every time. He would always leave immediately when Grimm joined, though Grimm was never anything but friendly to him. Not people that I want to have anything to do with.
This site is obviously better, but needs more players.
Sasa wrote:
Yes, cat it really is so well designed. And you smash those timeless boards.
Catlover wrote:
I still play on the old site on occasion. Still like to play with bonzodogman, sapphireblue, momoyangs, the alohas, bogglebooey, sydmm, kattykatty and a few others. I rarely see winsome and only occasionally see nashie. There are several new players too. But the boards repeat too often. No new content and certainly not as challenging as this. This expands my knowledge and vocabulary. This site is the absolute best.
domino wrote:
Okay:-) I'll try it out in the next tournament.

You still dont have the same speed and control as swiping. Try it on your phone.
Limequat wrote:
Ahhh that’s why you are so fast at mousing, that makes sense now. I was like how are people fast with a mouse!?
domino wrote:
But I swipe on my mousepad...I hold down the bottom left corner of the mousepad with one hand and swipe with the other hand (finger).
Alienzen wrote:
You should try swiping Dom. It is a lot faster.
domino wrote:
Nope. I use my mousepad:-) I hate mouses (at least computer mouses).
Limequat wrote:
Yep it works - very cool. You’re a mouser?!

History of Boojum
Origins
The original group of users knew each other from another site. That site was very basic, though the board played nicely. Strangely, instead of updating and improving the site, the owner allowed the site to get worse.
- Initially, he had 3 rooms, which were reduced to one.
- The chat interface was bad and somehow became worse through updates. Eventually it stopped working entirely, for weeks on end.
- His ranking system was based on farming points by lurking in the game room.
- The profiles were incredibly basic and eventually disappeared.
- The word list was downsized: many obvious words were removed, many users didn’t like this change.
Conception of Boojum
Boojum was created because I couldn't find a Boggle site that I enjoyed playing at - most are overly basic, ugly and very outdated. Years ago, in the younger days of the internet, I used a site called Spogg. It had several games, one of which was a Boggle game, with a bigger board. That site also had a friendly community, with forums, proper profile pages, photo albums and a ‘wall’ that you could write on. It wasn't just a gaming site.
So many modern sites seem minimalistic, basic and barely functional. They usually don't have a forum or profiles, instead they direct you to a Reddit or Discord page. I felt like something was lost. The quantity is abundant on Reddit and Discord, but the quality is very low. We live in the age of internet slop - before AI slop became a thing. There’s something different about having everything on one site.
I wanted to make Boojum anti-slop. I want to create a game experience that I myself want to play - not just a functional site, but one with features that you didn't even know you wanted. Not just a game site, but a community of like-minded, friendly, accepting people who want to engage.
Evolution
I believe the original version of the site only had the live games page.
- The Forum and Leaderboards were added shortly after. Both of those pages looked very different back then.
- The Everyday Boards and the Tournaments came next, then the Timeless Boards. These things came about to tackle the issue of having so few users. It was a way for people to play against each other, without having to be online at the same time.
- The most recent addition was the Mini-Games.
The Unicorn and LookingGlass rooms replaced Wonderland and Silence! (which were merged to become LookingGlass). People were often playing alone in the live games, they didn't want to wait 30 seconds between games - Silence! had a shorter intermission. The 30-second interval gives people a moment to check scores, word lists, and chat between games.
Boojum is still growing, with new features on the way - some just around the corner. For as long as people keep playing and enjoying the site, it will continue to evolve, shaped by the community it was built for. I’m deeply grateful for the support, kindness and enthusiasm of the people who make this space what it is. There’s more to come - the best bits may be yet to appear.

I vaguely remember watching this video at about 4am with my face smushed into my pillow, but I don’t think I was conscious enough to know what was happening. I think I had some weird dreams.
Having watched it again just now, it was really well done - very informative and will be so helpful to a lot of people. I love this idea and look forward to more videos. Al is right, you have a knack for commentary.
I’ll try to think of some of our funny/weird/interesting moments from the history of Boojum.
A lot of us “met” at a different site, so some stuff happened before Boojum existed.
Boojum has changed a lot since it came into being, I might have some screenshots somewhere - I still think it began as a superior word game site though, I really think it’s bizarre how badly done the others are.
My reaction to your arrival on this site - I was relieved to have a new super-big target, I told Ally: this guy is way better than me, he’s very fast and has a very high word count. Then I tried to figure out if/how a word count that high was possible.
I also thought good - they can all be annoyed that he wins nearly everything now. ;D
I remember one day thinking “he has been playing in that room for what seems like hours now…I hope he is okay…another hyper-focuser (like Alien and Guest)”.
When Sam showed up I thought “thank god, now 2k won’t get bored”.
I hope Guest341 comes back someday, he’d love you.
Was really interesting to watch your game and it was nice to put a voice to the fluffy cat pic.
I’m glad you’re one of us now…one of us, one of us, one of us… 😶

Thank you Alien! I’ll have to lean into this more in that case.
I suppose some examples might be like asking Alice what Boojum first looked like and identifying the story of how it got to be where it is now.
some other ideas could be the following:
- the most unusual tournaments and the chaos that ensued
- Inside jokes from within this community that are worth sharing with the rest of the internet
- the story behind someone’s hunt for the site record
- players such as myself and others who are rumored to have telekinetic powers
- some of the biggest breakouts on this site. Honestly, I consider myself on this list. I always wondered what people’s reactions were when I first joined this site. Sam is another example. If anyone else had a comparable breakout, that is before my time, but I’d love to know! What was baby Lime like?

Very nicely done 2k. You have a good voice for doing video commentary. What kind of stories are you thinking of?
Sasa wrote:
Absolutely love the lightening storm at the beginning, and the way you keep your words tight—starting with the same letters or area. Like what you said about it being okay to be slow, as I always am, lol, but kudos to you! Keep up the good work.

Please let me know if you would more boggle content.
I'm especially curious about if there are any fun stories worth doing a bit of a documentary style video recap. It doesn't have to be competition related. It could be something like a super whacky tournament experience. I'd love to learn and publish more stories, though I'm not a video editor by trade, so this kind of work isn't something I'd do consistently.
2kkei wrote:
People have been asking for a while. The video is rendering in my editor as we speak. This is the first video that I've uploaded to YouTube, so I have no idea how long it will take to complete, but the editing is done
2kkei wrote:
I’m still editing it right now. I thought I might also post some other boggle tips, but I may have gone overboard on how much detail and production I should have put into the video

where is your video 2k?

I like Ludovico Einaudi. You play pianao very well.

I am interested if you integrate some supernatural elements? Do you levitate while playing? That’s what I imagine.

Yes!! Do it please 2k!!

Dooo it, dooo it, dooo iittttt.
Seriously though, that’d be nifty.
Sasa wrote:
Why of course! Would love it!
2kkei wrote:
Just found out about this forum post. Sasa thought I should make a video. Would it help if I also provide post game commentary?
Limequat wrote:
Just trawled through the pages to find this.
Would be super cool if people were to screen record (or whatever) when they play. I’d be fascinated to see your vids. Yes I know I was meant to share a vid…I get distracted super easily, you guys know that.
2k, if you see this, I’d be particularly interested in seeing a vid from you, if you ever feel like sharing.
I’m curious, do you double thumb?
