Um, so the timeless boards will never disclose what we missed like a regular game?
Are supposed to just continually torture ourselves looking for archaic three letter words?
Limes at least give me a list pleeeeaassse. The three letter words are the killer on that game. Thank you 🙏

I think it would take a little work, but team play would be awesome. Maybe four teams or just two. Larger teams, bring more comradery . Think it would be fun! But all the games have been amazing!
Thank you Alice! Xox!
One benefit is all involved until the end. Just saying. But I am a teacher who is always working on inclusion, so I am partial.

Absent players might be only MOSTLY dead, though. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
(Maybe auto-kick absentee players from the room after 2-3 rounds with a score of zero? No real need for anything more complicated than that imo.)
Completely unrelated, but the profile info displays a little oddly for me... The "____'s corner" title runs behind the profile pic, which is partially cut off at the top of the page (off with their heads!!). It's not any sort of serious problem, though. I use a laptop/Firefox browser if that's relevant 🤔

Maybe Alice can "punish" everyone who forgets to leave the game with little coffin-symbols. Players who collect five or ten of them get banned and have to do something funny, embarrasing or difficult to regain access to Boojum.

Round Robin tourney mode being worked on?
Would give some flexibility with formats.
Eg:
3-4 day Round Robin tourney
group stage -> Round Robin to decide winner
group -> RR -> final between top 2
Guest341 wrote:
Word point scores under each best word on the end-game leaderboard screen. eg: (36pts).
Just saves time looking for each one in list.

Alice: Thanks for the submit button for the unicorn tournament, and cancel, so very nice. You are such a brilliant and thoughtful game designer.
Did you add a sparkly sound effect if you get the unicorn? Or was there one already? I actually usually mute the sound. If Limes wants to sing something, that would be awesome! Just a suggestion. 🦄🐰✨
Or maybe the genius of silver9 could come into play with some cool dancing unicorn?
Or both? A girl can dream….
Also, can you cancel duplicate postings if, like a dork, you left boojum open on your phone?

✍️ Emoji reactions to comments in main chat. As seen in Telegram/Whatsapp/Discord etc. So you could respond without cluttering up the chat with a short message. This would definitely get a lot of usage.
✍️ Likes for forum posts
✍️ Bit of a silly one this, but if you're top 3 in the current in-progress daily you get an appropriate coloured medal after your name. Not based on previous day's daily since mostly all the strong players will have played, so you'll always have the same people with the medals.
✍️ Winner of last tourney gets an icon or some kind of visual effect. Maybe even more silly.
✍️ I see achievements listed as an upcoming feature, could also add stats to show how many daily board 1st 2nds 3rds you've achieved. Calculated upon release of the next daily board. Maybe other performance stats shown like for each game mode what % of the max points available do you achieve on average. % of available words found, avg points per word etc. Can be used to track if you're improving.
To go even further, after games there could be a button to show stats which would show your performance in the game vs your avg metrics. Bit of a nerdy feature so low priority 🤓 Could be used to assess the relative strength of your performance despite the result. Actually, could help weaker players with motivation/confidence if they are losing but see they are performing above their averages. 👍
💡 Probably better than a separate window would be to show a little % stat on the endgame scoreboard after your words found & total score, eg (+15%). So no matter your skill level you can instantly assess your relative performance even after getting crushed by lime. Would be nice if you could see the % for everyone, so you could give credit if someone performed amazingly despite not winning. (maybe hide public visibility if the stat is a negative %? I don't know if people would be bothered by that or not) I'm actually liking this more as I write, would be cool to see.
*Edit: Stats and metrics based off last 100 games would probably be better. Keeps it up to date with your current skill level.

Back at it with The Nonsense™!
✍️ What if we had asymmetrical match-ups? maybe tournament rounds, where you can play 3-v-1 or 2-v-1 or something... like, in the hypothetical group of 3, 1⁄3 of each person's score is added together?
✍️ or, optional classic Boggle rule, games where any word that multiple people found does not count, only unique ones
✍️ direct challenges! throw gauntlets-- i mean, fun game boards-- at specific people like there's no tomorrow. Pick the rules for the particular game and then yeet?
✍️ I like Guest's Wildcard room idea!! could call it Jabberwocky or Curioser
Thanks again for the games Alice 🙏 hope something of this random assortment is amusing

*Hijacking this post for another idea.
Run algo to filter grids where Qu is unusable.
We wait ages for Qu so we can break world records 😛 when it's blocked it's demoralising and ruins my week.
*Nother wildcard mode idea
Grid is split into 4 sections. Sections = 1x mult bonus. If your word contains letters from 2 sections then you'd get an extra 2x word multiplier. If you can weave a word through all 4 sections then that would be 4x mult etc.
After people got used to this you could get crazier with irregular non-square sections like Tetris blocks. 🤓
*Wildcard room which cycles through all the modes I mentioned, except the Unicorn variant, since it has its own room. No leaderboard needed for this room since it would just complicate things.

I admit, G - I’m warming to your top twenty highest scoring words game idea.

Wildcard day added to daily board rotation. New wacky rules each time.
Ideas for variations:
Snark only board with at least 4 or more random orange tiles.
Boojum only board with at least 2 or more random green tiles.
60sec mode where only your top 20 highest scoring words count.
5 round Unicorn mode with grids lasting 20sec and final tally scored.

When playing alone you currently have to wait 30sec after a match. The current trick to play faster is to refresh the page, which reduces the timer to 10 seconds. Suddenly I thought what if there was a button that just immediately starts the next round? Even that 10sec wait can feel long when you just want to play. 🤓

This is NOT a suggestion, but rather praise (should be in the “things I like most” title, but who has the energy to hit an arrow button?) Hey Alice, I am hoping the unicorn has a short turn over
The LookingGlass room has an intermission of 15s and also serves as our Guest Room. It is rather a combination of the Wonderland and Silence! rooms.
It's a shame when folks don't get to play their turn in a tournament (especially knockout)
We could extend the time window for the first round to 48 hours, as everyone will have a lot of games to play. But even if there are no shows, everyone is more or less guaranteed to get some games in before going out. Hopefully it will work out, but we will wait and see how things go and maybe make adjustments later.

A likely very, very dumb & niche idea for adding chaos to people's lives: It's a shame when folks don't get to play their turn in a tournament (especially knockout)--sometimes life gets in the way after all. It would be wild if a didn't-play DQ meant anyone else not currently in the running could jump in and grab their spot! Like, for a very short window unplayed matches are open for the first person to submit a score in lieu of the absent player. Or maybe even an 'eleventh hour' rule, where in the last hour of the round time if a player hasn't played yet their spot can be poached.
...Perhaps more practically, 'stand-by' scores could be posted by hopeful stand-ins, and a random one snags the spot if the actual player doesn't show up. I imagine all of the above ideas would be a lot of work to implement though, so likely I'm just amusing myself with nonsense /ᐠ. 。.ᐟ\👍
(also obstreperous, brummagem, gormless, argy-bargy, hobbledehoy, and vicissitude could be fun word of the day candidates)

Currently the most annoying thing is when you bust your butt only to see the other player has 0 and wasn't even playing. Maybe they were talking but you also thought they were playing a bit too, or when you enter a room mid game only to find it was an afk corpse in there. So would be nice if there was a little light next to someone's name to indicate if they have scored any points this round.
*Or could be a 'Zzz' style sleep icon next to everyone until they score.

Howdy! I'd mentioned part of this in another thread, but since this is the place for ideas I'll toss it here instead ♡ॢ₍⸍⸌̣ʷ̣̫⸍̣⸌₎
Concept: "endurance" tournament! Each round, the score required to advance (by % possible or by number of points? number seems more fun to me, though the boards would have to be curated for it) goes up-- compete to be the last one standing, or just see if you can get your new personal best score. The tournament ends when no one passes the current round, creating the spicy possibility of multiple champions~ ...Or maybe it ends when Lime gets bored playing alone and throws the round I guess, lol. [EDIT: Ending the tournament at a set high score/round number so all remaining players win is another valid option!]
(And, to complicate things! it could be fun if failing one round doesn't knock you out just yet. Instead, you get one more round "in limbo," and you must clear the current round score + the amount you were short from your failed round in order to make your daring comeback into the tournament running.)
As a nitpicky little feature suggestion, a shortlist/toggle option in user settings for changing the font would be A+! Personally, for whatever reason I find Rubik just verrrry slightly harder to read than Nunito Sans Bold, for instance. Having a handful of high-legibility options would let players grab the font most comfortable for them. (Or perhaps even, experimentally, lowercase letters...) --And if there's a horrible memey hard-to-read font full of cluttered rainbows and confetti? you can give that one to Lime to make things fair ;)
Thanks for all your hard work, Alice the Wordgame Wizard (a "Spellcaster," if you will)!

Alice…I think it’d make the site 12 times better if there were lots of balloons, sparklers, confetti and more fireworks.
I’m pretty sure literally everyone else here - and everyone not here - agrees with me, so if you can do that, that’d be super nifty. Rainbows would also be nice.

Hello Leo.Zin. Thanks for your suggestions, I’ll consider these. This might be a good idea for a particularly cruel Tournament.
To answer your question from the lobby’s Notice Board, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to different shaped/sized boards.
I’m glad you like the site and feel welcome here.
Hello Sasa. It’s likely doable but would be problematic in another way, it’s something I’ll consider in future though, if others like the idea too.

Thank you Alice looks like the issue is fixed! What a difference it makes. (At least in my frustration level.) Also I seem to be able to type now, though not efficiently.
Leo.Zin wrote:
Might I suggest an “Unforgiving” mode that penalizes players for invalid words. It might be fun…in moderation haha and perhaps an “Even More Unforgiving” mode that penalizes players for BOTH invalid AND repeated words (though that actually sounds hellish, and I feel demonic just typing that lol).
Sasa wrote:

Alice wrote:
Hello Syskid and domino. This problem should now be resolved. You can now go back without having to retrace each letter. I’ve also made the gaps between letters slightly larger for desktop and laptop users, so hopefully this will make it less likely for people to select the wrong letter. Please let me know if there’s still an issue.
Alice wrote:
Hello Guest341. Thanks for the interesting suggestions, I’ll consider these.
Hello Sasa. This is on my list of things to do, soon it’ll be as shown on the Everyday Boards.
Hello Syskid and domino. I’ll have a look at this soon.
There’s no reason why the game wouldn’t allow you to type using a laptop, I’m at a loss for what the cause could be. As Limequat said, it sounds like a computer setting.
Please would you provide more details, Syskid?
Limequat wrote:
Swiping is way better, definitely recommend going back to swiping. Weird that typing didn’t work - sounds like a funny setting?

I use the mouse pad on my laptop. I actually tried typing last night just to see how it would go, and it....didn't. The game didn't even acknowledge my typing. Back in the day when Boggle was on Facebook and I played on my smartphone swiping with my thumbs, I was almost unbeatable. Those were the days!

Was there a reason the words aren’t in alphabetical order? After the game, I sometimes want to find a word I missed and it takes forever because they are jumbled up randomly.
Thanks.
PS you can delete my other posting under word order.
domino wrote:
I have the same problem Sys has. Was like that from the start. If you miss the correct letters to create a word, you have to go back the precise way or to retype/drag the complete word correctly. I use my touchpad because I am not a fast typer. I can't even type properly:-))) I got used to the problem because I am not in the master's league, not that competitive and just happy with having fun.
Limequat wrote:
What method do you use to play, Sys? I thought you typed.
Syskid wrote:
I have an issue with selecting the letters on the board. It too easily selects the wrong letters neighboring the ones I want and then I have to try the word all over again. Slows me down considerably. I suppose others would tell me the solution is just to type the words, but still there must be a fix for that. I don't have that issue at Boggle.

Ok you said you wanted outrageous stuff...
-
Wider text input box on main page, it seems center aligned at the moment so there is a gap on the left. also 2 line height by default to lessen need for manual resizing.
-
Button to show scoreboard after game in case you accidentally click off or just want a 2nd look.
-
Everyday variant: 60sec and it only counts your top 20 highest scoring words. I'm wondering if this will level the playing field a bit and give a chance for slower players to compete. Will have to see the results.
-
Option for alert sound if you're in the main lobby and one of your playmates starts playing in a room (or anyone actually, as I don't have any enemies here. yet.) This would be really useful so you don't have to keep checking if anyone is playing or not. Serpentine can play the ding for a new round even if you're in another tab, so it's doable.
Enough outrageous stuff for now 🤠
