The highest scores possible *oh and Frankenstein
I just managed to eke out a new high score again Sam. That took a lot of luck and somewhat fresh hands. I’ve found it to be a hard balance between grinding for the record and keeping hand strain at bay.
That took a few weeks. It would be demotivating to see Sam just destroy that record, but at a certain point, even he has a limit. What do you all think that limit might be in the three speed categories on Boojum? This would be the limit that the highest tier of player that we have right now can achieve in LookingGlass, Forever, and Boojum.
My other question is what kind of Frankenstein monster of a boggle player would it take to beat the current limit? Whose hands do we take? Whose vocabulary do we extract? While those are the primary questions, I think we also need to consider whose approach we also import. For example, I think our resident unicorns, especially Leo who has a remarkable talent for finding the highest scoring words first, would scale well with better speed and vocabulary. But who else might fit this hypothetical bill?

Sasa that's actually quite accurate. People just think I am calm because I am very reserved.
Sasa wrote:
@Leo awwww, charming, sweet. Thanks.

Sys is a hot fire ball, sarcastic, funny and utterly unpredictable.

Sys's calmness.... Leo, you know absolutely nothing about me and yet you identified what everyone around me says about me. How did you do that?

Sam’s hot streaks are making me think I need to take a break. Tunnel vision and repetitive strain takes its toll, so maybe spacing out my hunts for the high score is the solution.
i can’t wait to see this Frankenstein monster get assembled!

And yes, that’s why I said “tip of the iceburg”! Of course we would include Pinquey’s killer instinct, Sasa’s charm, Sys’ calmness, Stevieboy’s inconsistency, Elliot’s spookiness…the list literally goes on and on…

You might be geee and teeee, but I’m an OG P.I.M.P. …now do you understand ME?

I am a geee and teeee guy these days Leo.
Also you forgot Pinquey's killer instinct.

BUT, to answer your interesting “Frankenstein” question…I’d say maybe Sam’s speed, your/Blacklight’s vocabulary, my/Limes’ analysis, Alien’s pints of beer, Norm’s brute force, and Sister’s cheese balls haha and that’s just the tip of the iceburg!

Sam’s performances, even your (2k’s) performances, tell me that I simply need to grind A LOT more. I haven’t taken things seriously enough, or far enough.

But what genuinely throws me off is when Sam steps away for several days, and then randomly reappears, only to capture some impressive marks within a single hour. It only tells me that luck is more on his side than previously expected, and perhaps more than he himself knows.

It’s also important to keep in mind that, as Alice continues to nurture and enhance this website’s dictionary, naturally including longer words in time (hellooo, 16 available tiles so hopefully upwards of 15-16 letter words?)…then averages and expectations pertaining to the scores will shift considerably.

Congratulations 2K on the mind-BOGGLING mark!
Seriously, you remain a huge inspiration to me, and are the driving force/motivator behind a lot of my recent work (relentless, hyper-focused, grinding work, far from glamorous, which has yielded surprising results).
Approach, Intent, Focus…three incredibly important factors when chasing a monster score, but as the saying roughly goes, “Luck (and Inspiration) must find you hard at work”.
To practice regularly, almost religiously, is a necessity…when you factor in the randomness of board configurations, and the probability of stronger/weaker boards, then you understand the importance of exposing yourself to the sheer, raw QUANTITY of things. Practice until your arms are locked up, and your brain is mush, and you’re unable to clearly visualize a single word before it evolves into a new one. Eventually, you WILL receive an inordinately POWERFUL board (that 1-in-500 or -1,000 type of board), and at that point, your practice should allow you to glean information more efficiently from it. It’s important to remember that randomness is a key element of this game, and it pays to remain attentive at all times, waiting for the next “big moment”. And with every “big moment” lost, there is surely another around the corner, so long as you’re at work.
As it pertains to “limits” in each category on this website…I’d like to imagine that it’s 2000+ in Looking Glass, 3000+ in Forever, and 4000+ in Boojum.
Obviously, once larger (5x5 +) boards are introduced, perspectives will be thrown askew, but then new “standards” will be established.
At this point, I’m beginning to ramble (I never get the chance to REALLY discuss things in the Live in-game chat)…but I’ll leave it at this: I consider my memory to be my greatest asset.
That is to say, the more I play, and the more boards I observe, the better I get, because A LOT (more than healthy, sometimes) remains “fresh” in my mind. Hence the focus on Unicorn, when I exposed myself to around 1,500 boards in the span of 3 days (not particularly recommended), taking special note of all 6+ letter words, and reinforcing things continually.
And while chess used to occupy the majority of my time, I’m starting to understand that I’m naturally better at THIS game, so I’ve been allocating considerably more time towards this website lately, and have been more committed to improving…while “slowing down” and maintaining the deeper level of analysis and visualization that I’m familiar with in chess.

Also, this isn’t to say that Leo is slow. Finding longer words and inputting them in will also take more time because of the letters, but until I see a replay of Leo’s games, I won’t know how fast each swipe is for him
